Søren Kierkegaard

Søren Kierkegaard (d. 1855) was a Danish philosopher, theologian, and social critic who had a significant influence on existentialism—he has been called the “father of existentialism”—and Protestant theology in the twentieth century. He wrote critically on many topics, from organized religion and Christianity, to morality and ethics, to psychology and philosophy. One of the key motivations behind his social criticism was to renew the Christian faith, and much of his philosophical work explored the question of how to live as a “single individual.
