Cyrus Ali Zargar is the Al-Ghazali Distinguished Professor in Islamic Studies at the University of Central Florida. His research centers on the literature of medieval Sufism in Arabic and Persian, including love poetry and ethical treatises, the writings of Ibn al-ʿArabī, and early adherents to his worldview, and the development of Sufi terms and symbols. His most recent book, The Polished Mirror: Storytelling and the Pursuit of Virtue in Islamic Philosophy and Sufism, was published in 2017. Zargar holds a PhD in Near Eastern Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. He is currently completing a book titled Religion of Love: Farīd al-Dīn ʿAṭṭār (d. 1221) and the Sufi Tradition.
