William T. Cavanaugh

William T. Cavanaugh is professor of Catholic studies at DePaul University and director of its Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology. His major areas of research have to do with the Church’s encounter with social, political, and economic realities, and he is the author of several books, including The Myth of Religious Violence: Secular Ideology and the Roots of Modern Conflict and, most recently, The Uses of Idolatry, which examines modern idolatries and the ways in which humans become dominated by their own creations.
